Tiffany Harris charged with federal hate crimes in anti-Semitic attacks - New York Post

The Brooklyn woman busted for allegedly assaulting Jewish victims — yet twice released under new bail reform laws — has been hit with federal hate crime charges.

An arrest warrant was unsealed Monday against Tiffany Harris, charging her with slapping the three victims in a span of 10 minutes on Dec. 27 in Crown Heights.

“Two of the victims were wearing clothing that made them identifiable as Jewish,” an FBI agent wrote in the warrant, filed in Brooklyn federal court. “All of the victims were simply walking down the street when the defendant approached and assaulted them.”

In one of the alleged attacks, against Victim #2, Harris spat, “F–k you, Jews” as she hit her in the back of the head with an open hand.

The warrant said Harris allegedly admitted she “believed the three women were Jewish because the neighborhood was known as a ‘Jewish neighborhood’ and because of the manner in which the women were dressed.”

The Jan. 5 arrest warrant was unsealed the same day that US Attorney General William Barr met with leaders of the Jewish community in Brooklyn’s Borough Park to discuss the recent surge in anti-Semitic hate crimes.

Barr said that he’s “extremely distressed” by the situation and that federal authorities would be stepping up efforts to prosecute perpetrators, WABC-TV reported.

“It strikes at the very core of what this country is about,” Barr said during the meeting at the Boro Park Jewish Community Council.

“I’ve always felt it is particularly pernicious because it does target people based not only their ethnicity but also on their religious practice.”

The federal action also follows Brooklyn US Attorney Richard Donoghue’s decision to file a federal bank robbery charge against Gerod Woodberry, who’s accused of holding up a Chase branch on Flatbush Avenue less that four hours after he was released following his arrest in four Manhattan capers.

“No sound, rational and fair criminal justice system requires the pre-trial release of criminal defendants who demonstrate such determination to continuously commit serious crimes,” Donoghue said in statement that took square aim at the state’s controversial bail-reform law.

Harris, 30, was initially arrested on misdemeanor charges brought by the Brooklyn DA’s Office in the trio of attacks but walked free under the state’s new bail laws that bars judges from imposing bail on most misdemeanor cases.

A day after her release, she was busted a second time for allegedly punching a 35-year-old woman in the face in Prospect Heights — yet was sprung again.

Harris was arrested a third time on New Year’s Eve for allegedly pinching a social worker and finally hospitalized for a court-mandated psychiatric evaluation.

Harris’ lawyer didn’t return a message.

But the Lisa Schreibersdorf, the executive director of Brooklyn Defender Services, which is representing Harris in her state case, issued a statement.

“I am appalled that Tiffany Harris is being used as a scapegoat for the fear-mongering surrounding bail reform,” Schreibersdorf said. “Ms. Harris is quietly in the hospital getting the treatment she needs. She is not endangering anyone. Many members of the Jewish community have spoken out against the use of incarceration in her case, including one of the victims. I don’t know how this can been seen as necessary or even humane.”
