Originally, police were investigating the incidents independently. As of Sunday night, police say they believe all of them are now connected.

"There is evidence to support that all of the aforementioned investigations are related," CSPD said in a press release.

11 News was able to speak with a person who witnessed the incident near Wahsatch and Vermijo.

It was a scary close call for Mike Stokes after he caught the shooters sitting inside his car Saturday afternoon.

Stokes said he walked out of the business he owns near downtown Colorado Springs and saw two suspects rummaging through his vehicle.

"I confronted them and said, ‘What are you doing in my car?’ and he backs up ... I said, ‘Get out of my car,’ and he pulled a gun out and stuck it a foot away from my head. He said, ‘Get away from me [explicit] [explicit].’"

The suspect then allegedly demanded Stokes' keys. Stokes told him no and that's when the accused gunman aimed his weapon at Stokes for a second time.

"He stuck the gun back up in my face and said, 'Get away from me; I'll pop you.'"

Stokes pulled out his phone to call police, which scared the suspects and they ran off. But they weren't done said police.

"They both ran over to Wahsatch ... then I started hearing ‘pop, pop, pop’ and that’s where they had hit a vehicle in the windsheild and shot a guy."

Police confirmed one person was shot in the 200 block of Wahsatch Avenue. The shooting victim reportedly suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Heather Westbrook, who wasn't hit but was shot at, described the terrifying moment to 11 News reporter Ashley Franco.

"He jumps into the road so I swerved to go around him and just as my window is passing him, he pulls out a gun and shoots at me. And it was close enough that I could feel the heat on my face, and as I saw the gun coming out, I was like, 'No, this is not happening,' and I floored it and got out of dodge as fast as I possibly could.

"... I was a split second away from not being able to come home from my dog and I just felt so lucky and so happy that I didn’t freeze in the moment and that I was able to immediately take action and get myself safe."

The incident is believed to be connected to an earlier carjacking and shooting just east of Highway 115.

Late Saturday night, CSPD shared pictures taken from surveillance video in hopes of identifying their suspect. They said Sunday night, thanks to the tips, they were able to name him.
